Berta Balilti sees her bride as a strong, confident woman who wants to look sexy — but still classy — on her special day. The designer delivered that combination in an opulent fall Berta bridal collection shown in the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel, a setting befitting her ornately regal gowns inspired by the aristocratic women of Western Europe. The focus was on body-skimming lace sheath gowns with the slightest flare hem, adorned with shimmering paillettes, intricate embroidery, timeless pearls or dazzling crystals — and, at times, all of them at once. To amp up the sensual appeal, Balilti showed looks with bare backs and plunging necklines, but also offered dramatic capes, voluminous tulle detachable skirts and intricate bolero jackets for brides who prefer to cover up for the ceremony.
