Jason Wu's ladies let their hair down this season — literally. For the first time ever, the designer sent his usually well-coiffed models down the runway with loose, unfussy hair, often nonchalantly tucked into furs, which proved to be an interesting — yet very cool — complement to the ultra-luxe looks that made up the fall collection.
This more laid-back glamor in no way detracted from the strength and elegance that Wu's women give off season after season, and the sportswear he showed for fall, while relatively straightforward, was truly beautiful. Minimal dresses were given a sexy edge with a thigh-high slit or a low-cut back (and in a couple of cases, they were made from completely see-through black lace). Smartly tailored trousers and skirts were paired with silk tie-neck blouses that read just a bit retro, which is fitting, considering that Wu name-checked French actress Catherine Deneuve as his muse for the season.
A series of sparkly, beaded crew neck tops and gowns in white and navy, which looked about as easy to wear as a t-shirt, glistened thanks to the sun-drenched Spring Studios venue. But what really took center stage was the outerwear, particularly the rich furs that made up a number of the looks. Whether layered under a cashmere coat or draped over a dress as a stole, they were exquisite.
Model Anna Ewers closed the show, wrapped in a calf-length fur coat that was cinched at the waist with a thin leather belt. We're willing to bet that there wasn't one showgoer in attendance who didn't want to steal it right off of her back before heading out into the subzero temperatures. It was that good.
